The Spain Australia Council Foundation was among the guests at the reception given by the Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Australia
A reception was held on January 23 in the Royal Hall at Casino de Madrid to celebrate Australia Day. The Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Australia in Spain, Timothy Kane, hosted this event to bring together the whole Australian community in Spain as well as companies and institutions with interests in the country. SACF was represented by Esteban García Vilasánchez, Chairman of Navantia and the Council Foundation, and many of the Foundation’s patrons.
Australia Day (January 26) commemorates the arrival in Sydney of 11 ships from the UK in January 1788 carrying about 1,500 people onboard, the first European colony in Australia.
The celebration by the Embassy of Australia in Spain this year also marked a relatively recent milestone: the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Spain. The two countries have a solid, stable relationship which continues to grow, which is evidenced by the increasing number of Spanish companies operating in the Australian market, where they have a reputation for dedication and excellence.
