Seminar "How Australia and Spain face cybersecurity challenges"

Organized by the Spain-Australia Council Foundation and the Australian Strategic Policy Institute in Canberra on May the 5th

· The Spain Australia Council Foundation and the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) will co-host a cybersecurity dialogue at ASPI in Canberra on Thursday 5th May.
 
·  The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ignacio Ybáñez, on an official visit to Australia, and Richard Sadleir, First Assistant Secretary, International Security Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will open the dialogue.
 
·  The dialogue will bring together representatives from Australian and Spanish policy and business communities to discuss the latest trends and government and business plans in the field of cybersecurity, in a context of cooperation between Spain and Australia.
 
·  Remarks from industry and government experts will provide an overview of the global cybersecurity context and its impact on both countries’ national and economic security. Over the course of the day, participants will discuss the challenges cyberspace poses to national security, strategies for protecting critical national infrastructure, and best practice in combatting cybercrime. The dialogue will help highlight potential areas for improved bilateral cooperation and collaboration in this area. 
 
 
About the Spain Australia Council Foundation
 
The Spain Australia Council Foundation is a non-profit private institution, which aims to foster mutual understanding between Australia and Spain, a priority country in the Spanish foreign policy to the Asia and Pacific Area. Its Board consists of around twenty Spanish public institutions & top companies and coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain.
 
The aim is to unite the efforts undertaken by a broad range of sectors in Spain into a single civil society platform to promote common interests and tackle problems arising in fields of activity with links to Australia.
 
The Spain-Australia Council Foundation participates in the top-level meetings and major activities organised by the central, regional and municipal governments to promote  bilateral relations, actions such as investment forums and business meetings, cultural and education- nal activities and exchange programmes in fields like science and technology, energy, art, gastronomy and legal affairs.
The Foundation also promotes initiatives, meetings and actions considered priority by its Patrons and that represent a broad range of activities in the public and private sectors.
 
 
About the Australian Strategic Policy Institute
 
The Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) was formed in 2001 as an independent, nonpartisan think tank. Its core aim is to provide the Australian Government with fresh ideas on Australia’s defence, security and strategic policy choices. ASPI is responsible for informing the public on a range of strategic issues, generating new thinking for government and harnessing strategic thinking internationally.
 
 
ASPI International Cyber Policy Centre 
 
The ASPI International Cyber Policy Centre (ICPC) brings together the various Australian Government departments with responsibilities for cyber issues, along a range of private-sector partners and creative thinkers to assist Australia in creating constructive cyber policies both at home and abroad. The centre aims to facilitate conversations between government, the private sector and academia across the Asia-Pacific region to increase constructive dialogue on cyber issues and do its part to create a common understanding of the issues and possible solutions in cyberspace.
