The SACF attended an event organised by the Embassy of Australia to mark the occasion in Madrid
The Embassy of Australia in Spain organised an event in Madrid to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Spain.
The event, which took place at Madrid’s Teatro Real, was attended by prominent members of the Australian community in Spain as well as representatives of organisations and institutions with ties to Australia, including the Spain Australia Council Foundation, which was represented by its general coordinator, Vega Yubero.
In his speech, the Ambassador of Australia to Spain, Timothy Kane, emphasised the solid friendship and economic cooperation between the two countries. At present there are over 60 Spanish companies operating in Australia, and they are largely responsible for Spain’s positive image in the country; in the Ambassador’s words, Spanish services are a synonym for quality.
These companies operate primarily in the infrastructure, ship-building, fashion and food sectors. Timothy Kane also highlighted Spain’s role as an ally in negotiating Australia’s next Free Trade Agreement with the European Union.
To sum up, this close, fruitful relationship must continue to grow and strengthen, and the Spain Australia Council Foundation must act as a bridge among the two countries’ civil societies across a range of fields.
