The opening ceremony included the signing of an agreement between the Spanish Ministry of Education and the South Australian Department of Education
The city of Adelaide hosted the 3rd National Congress on Teaching Spanish in Australia earlier this month. This event brings together Australian and Spanish educational institutions for the leading professional gathering dedicated to teaching Spanish in the country.
Organized by the Education Office of the Embassy of Spain in Australia under the theme "New Horizons in Teaching Spanish: Innovation and Diversity," it was held in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute, the Spanish teachers' association STASA, and the Spain-Australia Council Foundation.
The official opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Education of South Australia, Lucy Hood; the Spanish Ambassador to Australia, Esther Monterrubio; and the Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Adelaide. The opening ceremony included the celebration of a historic milestone for bilateral educational relations: the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport and the South Australian Department of Education. An agreement establishing a framework for collaboration to promote Spanish language learning, foster joint programs, and encourage the exchange of pedagogical and teacher training experiences.
The event also featured a presentation by Diego García-Bellido, professor at the University of Adelaide and researcher at the South Australian Museum, sponsored by the Spain-Australia Council Foundation. His presentation, “Discovering the Past to Teach in the Present: Paleontological Heritage and Education,” offered a fascinating perspective on how scientific discoveries can become inspiring resources for the Spanish classroom.
The Education Office of the Embassy of Spain in Australia emphasizes that the congress provides a valuable forum for sharing experiences, ideas, and best practices among teachers and professionals committed to teaching Spanish.
