The improvement of a bridge is completed ahead of schedule, it contributes to a community investment program, and one of its projects receives a national governance award
Our patron, Acciona, announced several milestones in its operations in Australia in recent weeks. First, the company celebrated the ahead-than-expected completion of the Mudies Creek Bridge upgrade, and a new flood-resistant crossing on the Golden Highway was opened in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales.
The $133 million Golden Highway program, jointly funded by the federal and state governments, includes the new 30-meter single-span bridge and a one-kilometer redesign of the roadway to create a smoother surface and greater flood resistance.
The bridge was opened by Dan Repacholi, the federal MP for Hunter, who noted that "this upgrade to the Golden Highway will bring benefits that extend far beyond the thousands of people who travel this road every day."
Acciona and its partner GenusPlus announced the opening of the first project under the Community Investment Program within Transgrid's HumeLink East corridor project.
The Rural Universities Centre received a grant to create a dedicated space for local students in Tumut to pursue higher education without having to leave the region. Carel Nagel, HumeLink East Project Director, attended the opening and stated that this initiative "will continue to make a difference for many years to come by helping students remain in the region to fill key roles and contribute to a skilled local workforce."
Finally, Acciona was also awarded the Governance Outcomes Excellence Award for the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East Tunnel South project. The award was presented at the 2026 Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) Awards in Brisbane and recognizes strong governance and sustainable practices in the execution of large infrastructure projects.
The award, shared with Metro Trains Melbourne, was given to Suburban Connect, the consortium comprised of ACCIONA, CPB, and Ghella, responsible for constructing the southern section of the SRL East tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley. This category recognizes projects that demonstrate good governance practices to ensure the long-term value and resilience of infrastructure.
Raphael Touzel, Suburban Connect Project Director, stated that this recognition reflects the collaborative approach adopted from the project's earliest stages.
