Both projects, located in New South Wales, strengthen the integration of renewables, increase grid flexibility and improve supply availability and efficiency
The Iberdrola Group announced two energy storage milestones in the Australian state of New South Wales. Our company secured a long-term contract from the state government and officially inaugurated a facility already in operation.
The new contract is for the 100 MW Kingswood project, which will be able to supply energy for at least eight consecutive hours and meet the needs of approximately 65,000 homes during peak demand. This initiative has been selected for a Long-Term Energy Services Agreement (LTESA) from the New South Wales government.
In addition, Iberdrola Australia recently inaugurated the 65 MW Smithfield battery, located west of Sydney. This project, completed ahead of schedule, also has an LTESA contract. The Smithfield battery has the capacity to supply energy to 20,000 homes.
Iberdrola highlights Australia as a strategic market, given its commitment to energy storage as a key element for accelerating electrification and strengthening supply reliability and price stability. Iberdrola Australia has established itself as one of the country's leading renewable energy operators, with over 2,000 MW of generation capacity in operation or under construction.
As part of its 2025-2028 strategic plan, Iberdrola anticipates total investments of over €1 billion in Australia.
