Its subsidiary CIMIC will be in charge of the expansion of Perth Airport and has signed a strategic alliance with Sojitz Corporation
The joint venture Skyway, comprised of BMD and CPB Contractors (a subsidiary of CIMIC, which in turn belongs to the ACS Group), has been selected by Perth Airport to construct a new airstrip and associated roads. The new airstrip will be three kilometers long and 45 meters wide, representing a key step in the expansion of the Australian airport. This expansion will involve an investment of AU$5 billion and will increase passenger capacity and improve operational efficiency.
Juan Santamaría, CEO of the ACS Group, stated: “These improvements will lay the foundation for the development of Perth Airport’s new parallel runway and will play a vital role in boosting economic growth in Western Australia and across the country. Our team of experts at CPB Contractors prioritizes local employment, training, and sustainable construction, ensuring lasting value for the communities.”
Alliance with Sojitz Corporation
CIMIC also announced a strategic alliance with Japan's Sojitz Corporation, which will acquire a 50% stake in UGL Transport's transportation business. The transaction values UGL Transport at approximately AUD 800 million (100% basis), with CIMIC receiving approximately AUD 500 million in cash.
This agreement marks a significant milestone in CIMIC's strategy to generate value and accelerate portfolio growth. The alliance with Sojitz will allow UGL Transport to broaden its service offerings and expand into new markets. As Juan Santamaría stated, "Together with Sojitz, we will accelerate UGL Transport's expansion into new markets and technologies, including growth in Asia-Pacific in collaboration with Leighton Asia, while continuing to support Australia's transportation networks."
