The participants in the Leaders Programme had the chance to learn about the company’s different projects in the country
The interesting overview of Acciona’s projects in Australia offered by team members to the Australian Leaders made it clear that the company has proven its leadership in the infrastructure and renewable energy sector since it arrived in the country in 2002. The contract portfolio obtained by the Spanish multinational covers a range of fields, from the construction and operation of wind farms to the development of desalination and water-treatment plants, the construction of roads, the design and construction of photovoltaic solar plants and the allocation of railway projects. Acciona currently has offices in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney.
This track-record has afforded the company widespread recognition in Australia, including the award in the category of Best Contract of the Year presented by Global Water Intelligence for the water-treatment plant in Mundaring, Perth, and the Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Business Innovation Award. Adelaide’s desalination plant also received several awards, including the Best Sustainable Project of the Year by Green Project Management (GPM) and a distinction in the category of Best Desalination Plants of the Year from Global Water Intelligence. Mundaring’s water-treatment plant also received two awards in 2014 from Western Australia Division Engineers, and Jesús Ortiz, the ACCIONA Water engineer in charge of the plant as Head of Operations and Water Quality, was one of the runners-up to the Australian Water Association’s Awards. On top of all these accolades, Fernando Fajardo, a Civil Engineer and Head of Acciona Infraestructuras, received the ‘Official’s Cross’ of the Order of Civil Merit.
In addition to its business activity in Australia, Acciona is also dedicated to promoting Spanish culture in the country. The company sponsored Museo del Prado’s first exhibition in Australia, named ‘Portrait of Spain. Masterpieces from the Prado.’ In 2014, the museum once again loaned part of its collection to be shown in Australia, sponsored again by Acciona. This time, the exhibition was ‘Italian Masterpieces from Spain’s Royal Court, Museo del Prado’ and was shown at the National Gallery of Victoria, in Melbourne.
