Australia is currently the largest client of Navantia, a leader in military naval technology
Gonzalo Mateo-Guerrero Alcázar, Corporate Business Director, José Jiménez-Alfaro Martínez, Project Manager and Pablo López Díez, Director of the San Fernando-Puerto Real shipyard, accompanied the Australian Leaders on their tour of the Spanish company’s facilities. The members of the team talked to the Leaders about the business operations of Navantia, a leader in military naval technology which is committed to innovation and invests over 7% of its revenue in R&D. Navantia, like many other Spanish companies, has adopted an increasingly export-based business model over recent years, with naval programmes in over 19 countries. It currently operates in Australia, Qatar, India, Turkey and Brazil.
The visit served to emphasise Australia’s importance as a client to Navantia. This country is the company’s largest client, with contracts worth over 1.5 billion euros in the past few years. The company was hired by the Royal Australian Navy for three programmes (LHD, AWD and LCM1E) and is committed to this market, as shown by the opening of its new Technical Operations Centre in Adelaide in November. The Australian Government has recently launched a public tender process to replace its current patrol boat fleet and Navantia is among the bidding companies.
During the tour, the Australian Leaders had the chance to see the LLC ships that the Spanish company is building for their country. The order consists of 12 units and two thirds were delivered in Sydney in early February.
