The Spanish company will carry out rare earth processing tests at the Araxá deposit in Minas Gerais
The Spanish company Técnicas Reunidas has been selected by the Australian firm St George Mining to conduct rare earth processing trials in Araxá, a town in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais and one of the world's leading rare earth deposits.
St George Mining, a company specializing in the development of critical mineral recovery projects, has described the agreement as a "strategic engineering alliance to access cutting-edge European rare earth processing technology." Técnicas Reunidas has developed its own technological solutions for the recovery of critical materials. In Araxá, the Spanish company will apply its RARETECH technology for refining rare earth mineralization, including the production of mixed carbonate and rare earth oxides, and for the separation and fractionation of rare earth elements.
St George Mining, which already has a project in advanced stages of development in Brazil and half a dozen more in Australia, has emphasized that the engagement of Técnicas Reunidas has the potential to open European markets to Araxá's rare earths. John Prineas, CEO of St George Mining, stated, “We are very excited to be working with Técnicas Reunidas to further evaluate the optimal processing route for the rare earth elements from Araxá, as their reputation and experience in this type of activity are second to none.”
Técnicas Reunidas recently reached an agreement with Osmond Resources, also from Australia, to provide its technological solutions for the first complete rare earth production project in the European Union, located in the province of Jaén.
