Casa Asia celebrates a new edition of the Asian Film Festival Barcelona

The Asian Film Festival Barcelona (AFFBCN) is the Asian arthouse film festival that our patron, Casa Asia, has been holding in Barcelona for the past thirteen years. This year, the event will take place from October 29th to November 9th and will feature a program of 120 titles from more than 20 countries in Asia and the Pacific.

The AFFBCN's main venue will be the Cinemes Girona, along with CaixaForum, the Barcelona Film School, the Institut Français, the Confucius Institute Foundation of Barcelona, and Zumzeig. Additionally, the Filmin platform and the Betevé channel will host the online sessions.

With its programming, the AFFBCN once again makes Barcelona the epicenter of independent Asian cinema, covering a vast area that stretches from Central Asia to the Asia-Pacific, passing through South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia. The event is supported by, among other institutions, the Australian Embassy in Spain, the Catalan Institute of Cultural Enterprises, the Barcelona Institute of Culture, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, the Confucius Institute Foundation of Barcelona, and the Japan Foundation.

Menene Gras Balaguer, festival director, points out that this edition represents "the consolidation of a festival that gives visibility to the sovereignty of the countries involved in the program and seeks to showcase the most recent productions. The criteria used in its selection are related to the intention of facilitating information and knowledge about cultures of difference, as well as their influence in a global market that has not managed to erase its identity, despite the incessant diasporas and regional conflicts."
