Iberdrola launches floating measurement equipment for its Aurora Green project in Australia

Iberdrola Australia recently announced on its LinkedIn profile the launch of a floating LiDAR and Metocean measurement team from Port Anthony, Australia, as part of its Aurora Green offshore wind energy project.

According to the company, this equipment will collect data on wind, waves, currents and other atmospheric and oceanographic parameters over a period of one to two years. It will also provide information on the development and design of the Aurora Green project, enabling Iberdrola Australia to better characterise the wind resource in its licence area. The device is powered by batteries recharged by solar and wind energy.

In its publication, Iberdrola Australia noted that the deployment was completed smoothly, following the company's international best practices, within the framework of the Feasibility Licence Management Plan approved by the Offshore Infrastructure Regulator and working with local operators and contractors.

The Aurora Green project involves the installation of up to 150 turbines and related infrastructure. It will be capable of generating up to 3GW of clean energy, enough to meet the demand of up to 2.25 million homes. It is expected to begin operating in 2032.
