This visit to the winery in Jerez de la Frontera afforded the Leaders a great opportunity to learn about the diversity of Spain’s wines
González Byass started out as a family company with strong ties to Jerez de la Frontera in Cádiz, and has succeeded in generating a strong international market for its wines and spirits; it even distributes them in Australia. The company’s 2014 figures show that international revenues now account for 63% of the total, up from 53% two years earlier. One of González Byass’s greatest achievements over the past few years has been the consolidation of its international expansion, and it now boasts a presence in 105 countries. Currently, it has its own distribution network in Spain, the UK, Mexico and the US.
During this first edition of the Australian Leaders Programme, the participants had the chance to take a guided tour of the wine company. As well as learning about the wine-making and marketing process, they also discovered why the company is believed to be the Best Wine Family in Spain and ranks sixth in the world in the list of the Top 100 Wineries 2014, drafted by WAWWJ (World Association of Writers and Journalists of Wines and Spirits) journalists and writers.
